Software Architect role at Airbus Defence and Space.
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Software Architect to lead the design, development, and evolution of complex software systems for critical defence and space applications. The role is pivotal in shaping the technical direction, ensuring architectural integrity, and driving the successful delivery of cutting‑edge software solutions.

* Occasional travel within the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities
* Architectural design, definition, and documentation of software systems.
* Develop and maintain technical roadmaps for software products.
* Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies, frameworks, tools.
* Define and oversee integration strategies for components, subsystems, external systems.
* Design and implement robust security architectures and ensure compliance.
* Architect solutions meeting performance, reliability and scalability requirements.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
* 8–10 years of experience in software development; 3–5 years in a Software Architect role.
* Proven experience designing and delivering large‑scale systems in defence, aerospace, or highly regulated industries.
* Experience with architectural patterns such as microservices, event‑driven, monolith decomposition.
* Strong proficiency in C++, Java, Python, Ada or other embedded‑real‑time languages.
* Knowledge of software design principles, OOP, design patterns.
* Experience with real‑time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software ideal.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
* Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices.
* Experience with model‑driven architecture (MDA) tools a plus.
