We are seeking a skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and delivering engineering projects in the LPG sector across the UK, ensuring technical integrity, safety compliance, and commercial performance. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple phases of LPG infrastructure projects, from feasibility and design to installation and commissioning.
Responsibilities.
Project Execution
* Manage end-to-end delivery of LPG infrastructure projects including tank installations, pipeline networks, vaporisers, and metering systems.
* Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and budgets.
* Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, customers and regulatory authorities.
Technical Design & Engineering
* Prepare functional design specifications, drawings, and documentation for LPG system designs.
* Perform engineering calculations (e.g., pressure drops, storage sizing, venting) in line with industry standards.
* Review and approve contractor submittals and engineering documentation.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
* Ensure all designs and installations comply with applicable regulations (COPs, GSIUR, BS EN, etc).
* Support safety and hazard reviews (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID) during project development.
* Assist with permitting and compliance reporting.
Site Management & Commissioning
* Oversee site activities including construction, installation, and commissioning.
* Perform inspections and FAT/SAT testing as required.
* Troubleshoot issues and provide engineering support during startup and handover.
Stakeholder Communication
* Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and third parties.
* Provide regular updates and technical reports to project stakeholders.
* Support business development with technical input on proposals and tenders.
Profile
Functional:
* Practical risk management experience (IOSH desirable).
* Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.
* Contractor engagement and working to procurement processes.
* Ability to identify, develop and implement process improvements, including writing documentation.
* Industry experience with a detailed knowledge of LGUK Codes of Practice including Siting distances to buildings, boundaries, fixed sources of ignition, firewalls, compounds and vegetation, Pipe material and sizing for low, intermediate and high pressures, Firefighting.
* Ability to make justified decisions as to the options available when designing solutions and forming technical proposals.
* Ability to decide upon preferred approaches from a cost, safety, and logistic perspective.
* Ability to prioritise works to suit customer requirements and resource constraints.
* Functional use of 2D CAD.
* Knowledge of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and general schematics to support proposals/installations.
* Technical understanding of power, heating, and heat distribution technologies, alongside CHP, heat-pump, and generation technologies (Applications).
* Calculations to support gas, heat, and fluid flow/design limits.
* Hazard identification and evaluation / management of risks.
Personal:
Essential
* Fundamental project management qualification.
* 3+ years of experience in project engineering within the LPG, oil & gas, or related industries.
* Working knowledge of LPG system design, storage and distribution systems.
* Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., AS/NZS 1596, BS EN 12952, NFPA 58).
* Strong project management and organisational skills.
* Proficient in CAD, MS Project, and engineering tools/software.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
* Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or related field).
* Chartered Engineer (or working towards) status.
* Experience with hazardous area classification and ATEX/DSEAR compliance.
* Exposure to LPG in commercial/industrial environments such as energy centres, fuel depots, or manufacturing plants.
* HSE certifications relating to practical risk management and control (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
