Veterinary Surgeon – County Durham
Independent, VetGDP registered small animal practice in the heart of County Durham with excellent onsite facilities and a talented, supportive team. No OOH, late nights or bank holidays. Competitive salary up to £65,000 and a strong focus on professional development and work–life balance.
About the practice
* Independent small animal practice in County Durham, VetGDP registered and awaiting final submission for General Practice status under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme.
* Brand-new clinic with five consultation rooms, two theatres, separate cat and dog wards, a dedicated euthanasia room, and a fully equipped in‑house lab. Diagnostic tools available; endoscopy is not offered (Alicam is used instead).
* Nurse training practice with a culture that supports succession and long-term development.
* Supportive, collaborative environment with a Surgery Certificate holder, sister practice, and a nearby referral hospital. Weekly vet meetings and a dedicated Vet Slack group.
Role and responsibilities
* Join a team that varies in experience from new graduates to a Surgery Certificate holder; you will contribute to a collaborative, high‑quality clinical environment.
* Enjoy a varied caseload with occasional exotic patients.
* Work approximately 34 hours per week, with 1 in 4 days spent on the road locally as part of Homecare Vet/Nurse team.
* Participate in a 1:4 Saturday rota (2.5-hour consult shift) with no late nights or out-of-hours shifts.

* Leadership experience is a bonus; leadership training is provided and encouraged.

The package
* Salary Range: £40,000 – £65,000 (dependent on capability/certification).
