Lead engineering excellence across one of the UK’s most critical rail portfolios
We’re looking for a Regional Engineering Manager to take on a pivotal leadership role within our Rail UK business. This is a senior, influential position for an experienced engineering leader who is passionate about safety, assurance, and delivering technically excellent outcomes across complex rail programmes.
As the regional engineering authority, you will shape and lead engineering strategy across the region, ensuring all engineering activities are delivered safely, competently, compliantly and in line with Rail UK engineering strategy. You’ll play a key role in enabling both operational excellence and long‑term strategic success.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic and operational leadership across all engineering disciplines within the region, ensuring teams work cohesively to deliver safe, compliant and assured engineering outcomes
* Act as the engineering authority, embedding robust engineering governance, assurance and risk management aligned to Rail UK standards and Group Minimum Engineering Expectations
* Lead engineering assurance, design governance, technical risk and change control across projects, protecting programme, cost and quality outcomes
* Work closely with the Regional Director and senior leadership teams, ensuring engineering requirements are fully integrated into business plans, bids, project strategies and commercial decisions
* Oversee regional resource and capability planning, ensuring the right skills are in place to support work winning, mobilisation, delivery and project close‑out
* Champion capability development, progression and succession planning, building a strong, engaged and future‑ready regional engineering community
* Provide senior technical input into work winning and bid governance, supporting robust, commercially sound engineering solutions
* Drive value engineering, innovation, digital engineering and sustainability, improving affordability, competitiveness and overall business performance
* Foster a collaborative, high‑performing engineering culture, aligned with the wider UK Engineering community and Professional Heads of Discipline
Who we’re looking for
You’ll Be An Accomplished Engineering Leader With Significant Experience In Rail Engineering Environments, Able To Operate Confidently At Senior Stakeholder Level. You’ll Bring
* Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills
* Proven experience across rail engineering disciplines, technical governance and assurance
* Sound judgement and the ability to balance safety, quality, cost and programme priorities
* A collaborative approach to stakeholder and customer management, including clients, regulators and design partners
* A clear commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
* Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) – preferred
