Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced Principal Data Warehouse Developer to join our Digital Services team. We have set out an ambitious five-year Digital Plan to deliver world-class information and digital solutions, with patient care at its core.

As Principal Data Warehouse Developer, you will play a key role in enabling and enhancing the Trust’s data warehousing and Business Intelligence capabilities. You will design, develop, and maintain ETL processes, create and update data pipelines, and support the integration of new datasets to ensure high-quality, actionable insights are available across the organisation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

* Contribute to the Trust’s Digital and Data Strategies through advanced technical delivery.
* Design and implement robust ETL processes for diverse datasets.
* Collaborate with senior clinicians, operational teams, and support staff to understand business needs.
* Deliver information solutions that enable evidence-based decision-making.
* Work on enablement of:
o Data linkage across multiple systems.
o API development and integration.
o Cloud migration of data assets.
o Metadata management and governance.
o Establishing and maintaining a data catalog.
o Creating new data pipelines and transforming and upgrading existing ones.
* Manage your workload effectively, in order to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards.
* Contribute to a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

* Experienced in data warehousing, ETL, and BI development.
* Skilled at translating complex business needs into technical solutions.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Bachelor’s degree in Software Development or equivalent qualifications, knowledge, or experience.
* Demonstrable expertise in Database Development, either obtained via industry recognised qualifications (e.g. Microsoft Certification) or equivalent practical experience
* Proven knowledge and understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) either through a suitable qualification (e.g. Agile) or equivalent practical experience.
* Evidence of SQL Server Database Administration either through formal qualifications or via equivalent practical experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and post qualification learning and development.


Desirable criteria

* Advanced qualification in an agile development methodology.
* Qualification in team leadership (such as the Institute of Leadership and Management’s Level 2 Diploma in Team Leadership)


Experience


Essential criteria

* Proven experience of database development role in a formal development environment.
* Evidence of leading the design, development, and deployment of large-scale database development projects.
* Evidence of experience with Windows PC and server operating systems.
* Proven record of management of successful and substantial software development and implementation.
* Evidence of a strong understanding of NHS Clinical/Administrative Information and IT requirements.
* Proven experience of using Microsoft BI Stack to prepare, move, store and present data. This includes; SSIS, SSAS, SSRS
* Proven experience using T-SQL, XML to solve complex queries.
* Excellent working knowledge of relational database systems.


Desirable criteria

* Experience developing software for Clinical Information or Healthcare systems.
* Good working knowledge of database administration activities
* Experience of working in an Agile Development environment.
* Experience of using Qlik Business Intelligence Software.

* Highly skilled in development using a suitable IDE and programming language.

* Excellent planning skills. Ability and confidence to lead and motivate a team, chairing team meetings (such as Daily SCRUMS and Sprint retrospectives.)
* Able to establish good working relationships with people at all levels.
* Able to work under own initiative.
* Able to communicate with staff on complex business or clinical processes.
* Ability to assess and recommend the recruitment of suitable staff.
* Display high quality written and verbal communication skills.
* Able to learn new technologies and IT systems quickly through both self-study and professional courses.
* Highly professional and flexible attitude to work.

* Ability to speak Welsh
* Understands the Data Protection Act and its implications for the holding of patient information NHS Information flows / services.
