About you…
We’re looking for a talented Network Engineer to join our growing team. This role isn’t for everyone; we’re a fast-paced start-up and a team who lives and breathes technology.
It would be great if you have experience of working in an Internet Service or larger telecoms Provider but really should be coming from a similar type of role.
We are ideally looking for someone who is an excellent communicator and can prioritise their workload. Attitude is key. We want to talk to people who are eager to learn and advance their careers. We’re not necessarily looking for someone to be the finished article, but you do need to have ambition and passion to want to learn and develop with the team.
We place a strong emphasis on attitude, passion for technology, and the idea that "it's okay" is never good enough.
It is essential that you have the following Skills
* IP networks and TCP/IP technologies
* IP Routing & switching protocols
* Hands-on knowledge of Juniper, Nokia/Alcatel or Cisco Routers & Switches
Ideal Competencies, Qualifications and or experience include:
* Previous experience of working in an exchange and switch room environment
* Proven optical experience, working on a range of equipment
* A broad knowledge of telecoms equipment
* The ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
* A positive can-do attitude with the willingness to learn new skills
* Good understanding of operational support & Management Systems
* Juniper JNCIA or other similar level accreditation/experience
* Knowledge of Passive Optical Networking (Nokia XGS/GPON platform)
* Understanding of Internet/Service Provider architecture
* Knowledge of Fibre transmission technologies, CWDM / DWDM
* Experienced in fibre testing methodology, iOLM, OTDR
* Experienced in an IP 2nd line technical support role
* Experienced working with Openreach services such as DFX, EAD, EBD

This is not your typical Network Engineer role, we are a start-up and very much all hands on deck. You’re just as likely to find our CTOO & Director of Network Operations out on-site rolling their sleeves up as you are to find them in the weeds at our state-of-the-art NOC in Cardiff or Network Lab in Newport.
The same is expected in this role, you’ll have a company van provided to you (and need a full driver’s license) and as the team grows so will responsibilities however you should expect to put your critical thinking skills to good use across our network both in office as well as the field.
What you’ll be doing…
We’re looking for someone with experience in a similar type of role; We are looking for a talented, technical engineer and if you have been working in Network Operations and or Network Engineering for a while then you’ll know the variety involved in a role like this.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* Lead on Complex Active Network problem investigation and resolution
* Act as an escalation point for Field and Network Engineering teams
* Working independently and in partnership with our Chief Engineer's Office you will lead on the translation of active network build, creating documentation, craft handovers, support guides and maintenance packs
* Support the implementation of new equipment along with the maintenance of existing systems
* Support the development of standard Operation Procedures
* Support in the active network alarm correlation and priorities, that our Network Operations Centre will react to.
* Be a member of a 24/7/365 rota to support the Active Network, maintaining the configuration, monitoring & alerting (1 in 4 cover at the moment)
