Job Summary
Due to a recent re‑organisation within our Team we are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance Team based in Wakefield. The role requires financial and budgetary expertise with excellent communication and negotiation skills, and is suitable for someone keen to progress who can work under pressure and meet deadlines.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Finance Manager delivering high quality, timely financial reporting and analysis to support decision making and financial control, and will also support the senior Finance team as required, including report writing, forecasting, costing, budget setting, annual planning and expenditure analysis.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑level financial expertise and advice to managers and senior finance staff.
- Support development and delivery of Care Group Annual Plans.
- Coordinate, evaluate and review the production of monthly Management Reports.
- Produce detailed workings for budget setting, including evaluation, analysis and reconciliation to the Care Group’s financial plan.
- Provide financial advice to aid the production of Business Cases and cost/benefit analyses.
- Intelligence gathering and investigation of service issues to advise on financial risk and options for decision making.
- Day‑to‑day operational management of Management Accounts staff.
- Play a leadership role within the Care Group, working in a multidisciplinary team using matrix working to deliver Care Group objectives.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Good understanding of the operation of financial ledgers.
- Strong knowledge of annual planning cycle and annual accounts process.
- Experience with budget setting processes.
- Ability to produce clear, accurate and timely reports and analysis for finance managers and budget holders.
- Financial leadership ability in multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of financial processes and ability to improve systems in collaboration with the team.
- Knowledge of external reporting and accounting policies for the production of Annual Accounts.
- Experience with the Financial Times regulatory environment.
- Capable of leading a project team.
- Strong working relationships with budget holders and their teams.
- Proven track record of day‑to‑day portfolio of budgets management, including detailed working on budget setting, annual planning, monthly financial reports, variance analysis, performance analysis and intelligence gathering.
- Experience in providing financial advice for Business Case Development and cost/benefit analysis.
- Ability to supervise and develop a small team.
- Excellent organisation, delegation and deadline‑management skills.
- Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams and leadership or supervisory role.

- Evidence of advanced Excel skills.
- Understanding of mental health services.
- Customer service training.
- NHS or Foundation Trust experience.
- Experience with Shared Business Services Oracle system.
- Experience presenting to finance and non‑finance audiences.
- Experience of service line reporting.

Qualifications
- AAT Qualified or a relevant degree.
- Studying for a CCAB qualification.
- Evidence of personal development or part‑qualified CCAB is desirable.

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 a year (Band 6)
