You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity to respond to the presence or potential releases of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release, and to conduct performance of noninvasive emergency medical procedures. Qualifications and Key skills A valid UK Driver’s license (Category C) is required, plus One year's specialized experience clearly demonstrating the Key skills listed below: • Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc. • Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy. • Knowledge of HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions. • Knowledge of basic life support techniques and protocols; and safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. • Skill in operating communications equipment. • Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; and to lift and carry heavy loads; and to conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; and to apply basic life support techniques and protocols. You will be required to: • Achieve IFSAC certification up to HAZMAT Technician in order to maintain sufficient numbers across each watch/shift to meet operational needs and be part of a HAZMAT Team. • Achieve IFSAC certification up to Confined Space Technician in order to maintain sufficient numbers across each watch/shift to meet operational needs and be part of a Confined Space Team. • Be certified by the Department of Defense Firefighter Certification System as Firefighter II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, Apparatus Driver Operator – Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply. • Be certified and maintain National Registry Emergency Medical Technical-Basic certification within 12 months of being appointed to the position. Failure to complete the required certifications within the 12-month period will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certification is due to circumstances of the employer, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable time frame. This position may also be coded as mission essential. • You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. • This position may be considered operational; therefore, you are entitled to receive Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement for working an approved USAFE “as rostered” shift pattern, which may include weekends and public holidays. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. • You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • You must pass pre-employment and annual physicals (including specific vision standards), work in adverse conditions using required safety/respiratory/hearing gear and be subject to drug testing for reasonable suspicion or post-accident. • You may be required to maintain a current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification. • The position requires a 12-month probationary period and falls under UK retirement rules for Primary Firefighters (age 60).
