Service Delivery
Maternity Services at UHD are delivered both within the community across Poole and Bournemouth and from our state‑of‑the‑art maternity unit located within the BEACH building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, providing integrated, high‑quality care for women and families.

Base Location
Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with community hubs supporting community‑based staff.

Responsibilities
* Sign off mentor for student midwives, taking clinical responsibility and supporting their development.
* Work a shift pattern that includes unsocial hours and provides a 24/7, 365 day a year service.
* Take on link roles within infection control, risk management, clinical skills training or safeguarding as required by the service.
* Assist in the development of an evidence‑based culture, implement research protocols and guidelines.
* Assist in the maintenance, monitoring and evaluation of standards of care within the midwifery team and support implementation of recommendations from government or professional bodies and patient charter standards in relation to maternity care.
* Assist in developing Health and Safety standards, monitoring these standards, ensuring trust policies are adhered to, and equipment is used correctly in accordance with Health and Safety at Work Act.
* Assist and support the continual review, development and improvement of maternity services.
* When determining a pathway of care, take a holistic history relating to the women/birth person’s pregnancy, analyse all information and determine the most appropriate pathway of care.
* Participate in the integrated midwifery model working within both community and all areas of the acute setting, working shifts including day and night shifts providing a 24‑hour, 365‑day service.
Career Progression
* Progress through the career structure from Midwife Practitioner to Midwife Team Leader, Consultant Midwife and Matron.
Additional Information
UHD is investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. Some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed; travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute.
