Overview

Technician [Track Maintenance] at Network Rail – Stourbridge, GB. You will help keep the nation moving daily by supporting essential maintenance on the railway network. You’ll work outdoors in a team, in all conditions, to maintain rail infrastructure safely and efficiently for passengers and freight users.


Responsibilities

You’ll be part of a technician team providing the link between the team leader and operatives. You’ll specialise in Track Maintenance and work outside in all conditions, day or night, often involving movement of kit across challenging terrain. You will:

* Work as a safety-focused team member, following rules and collaborating with others to keep the railway running safely.
* Lead the team when asked by the team leader and ensure the team has the right competencies to meet safety standards.
* Model safe working behaviours and be prepared to challenge risks to ensure everyone gets home safe.
* Develop both technical and non-technical skills through provided training to grow within the role and potentially move into leadership positions.


Your Skills Matter

Transferable skills are valued. You don’t necessarily need rail experience, but you should demonstrate the following:

* Leadership – Ability to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
* Effective communicator – Strong communication skills to give clear instructions to the team and colleagues.
* Technical skills – Knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in your discipline.
* Safety – Model safe behaviours, implement safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations.
* Problem solver – Persistent in finding safe and effective solutions; keep skills up to date with standards and procedures.
* Willingness to learn – Ongoing development of skills and knowledge related to the discipline.
* Relevant qualification – Ideally NVQ Level 1 or 2 in the discipline or equivalent experience.


About the Role (External)

Technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and operatives. For this role you’ll become a specialist in Track Maintenance. Technicians work outside in all conditions, often transporting kit across challenging terrain. You’ll be safety-focused and a team player, critical in environments next to moving trains.

Additional Information

* Shifts – Changing patterns including days, nights and weekends.
* Outdoor working – Comfortable in different weather conditions.
* Safe working – Employment offers are subject to pre-employment checks including drug and alcohol testing, medical, and BPSS checks (hearing and eyesight examinations).
* Driving – Driving licence (category B) required to drive Network Rail vehicles.
* Commute – Within a 60-minute commute of the location you’re applying for.


Salary

Standard Maintenance Contract: £37,073.00
