Job Summary

Join the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Trust Bank as a Registered Nurse. The role involves working on an as‑and‑when‑required basis across Barnsley, Calderdale, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Wakefield with bank cover to support services Trustwide.


Responsibilities

* Work flexibly to cover shifts, providing 365‑day per year service coverage.
* Act as shift co‑ordinator, participating in planning and co‑ordination to ensure smooth operation and role modelling best practice.
* Coordinate and lead the team, maximizing team skills for high‑quality care and interventions.
* Prioritise workload in line with team and service objectives.
* Serve as a primary nurse: assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/care for named service users.
* Participate in and contribute to service user reviews, ward rounds and meetings as applicable.
* Provide care and specific interventions for other service users as allocated, in line with their written care plans.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date care plans and use systems for service user and carer documentation.
* Contribute to maintaining statistical service records and be involved in evaluation processes as required by management.
* Develop good working relationships with consultants, allied teams and other trust services to ensure effective delivery and resource use.
* Build positive relationships with non‑statutory and voluntary agencies to develop working partnerships as appropriate.
* Encourage service user/carer involvement in all aspects of delivery and inform users of their right to access and engage with their care plans.
* Contribute constructively to the development and communication of a shared philosophy of culture and practice.
* Work within the boundaries of accountability and confidentiality.
* Maintain and continually improve all standards of care and procedures within the team.
* Support and supervise junior staff, providing direction, guidance and clinical supervision.
* Promote a positive image of the service, the trust and the public through professional conduct.
* Ensure the environment reflects equality, diversity, rights, health, safety and security for all service users, carers and staff.


Qualifications

* Essential: 1st Level Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the register.
* Desirable: Relevant post‑basic qualifications (CBT/PSI) and experience of mentoring/supporting learners or ability to demonstrate mentoring skills.


Experience

* Essential: Systematic approach to care (assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation); Awareness of the Care Programme Approach; Ability to work with individuals who have mental health needs or learning disabilities; Knowledge of key worker/primary nurse systems; Experience in multi‑disciplinary team settings and collaborative working within a recovery‑based model of intervention; Competence in clinical/professional supervision.
* Desirable: Implementation of the Care Programme Approach; Experience leading and supervising junior or unqualified staff; Familiarity with a care pathway approach toward recovery; Experience with risk assessment models (HCR, 20) and use of risk tools in relevant clinical settings.


Person Specification

* Essential: 1st Level Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the register; Systematic care approach; Experience with the Care Programme Approach; Multi‑disciplinary teamwork; Professional supervision skills.
* Desirable: Post‑basic qualifications with mentoring experience; Leadership and supervisory experience; Risk assessment and tool utilisation.


UK Registration

Applicants must have current UK professional registration.


Location & Working Pattern

Fieldhead Hospital, Ouchthorpe Lane, Wakefield, WF1 3SP – Flexible working across the Trust areas.


Benefits

Band 5 with salary range of £32,073 to £39,043 per annum; 365‑day band bank contract; voluntary charity work; full service benefits.
