Estates Maintenance Technician

If so, then Brockenhurst College is looking for an Estates Maintenance Technician on a part time basis to assist with the maintenance and security of the buildings on the College’s sites. Ideally, we are looking for people who have some previous working experience of general maintenance and repair work. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £23,764 - £31,851 per annum, pro-rata, DOE. The working pattern for this role is Friday, 7.00am until 2.30pm or 12.30pm until 8.00pm on a rotating basis.

As our Estates Maintenance Technician, you will assist with the maintenance and security of the buildings on the College’s sites.

Responsibilities as our Estates Maintenance Technician will include:
2. To unlock and maintain appropriate security for the main College sites
3. To carry out emergency security repairs where possible
4. To promote security awareness on the establishment, particularly during College closure periods
5. To carry out painting and decorating duties on campus
6. To operate the heating and hot water plant (where applicable).
7. To ensure that recommended temperatures are maintained throughout all buildings
8. To carry out non-specialist and routine maintenance for heating boilers, water pumps, sump pumps etc
9. To ensure proper safety precautions are observed in boiler house(s).
10. To deal with, or arrange to be dealt with, all burst pipes, leaks, flooding, fires, blockages, breakages, as appropriate. To liaise with Assistant Estates Manager. as necessary
11. To carry out work under some or all of the following headings (training will be given where required) general repairs (door handles, fire door closures, etc) joinery (furniture repairs, desks, chairs and other minor joinery work) plumbing (tap washers, ball valves) glazing at ground floor (upper floors where accessible) minor painting floor maintenance To keep the Estates helpdesk up to date.
As our Estates Maintenance Technician, you’ll ideally have:
12. A good general standard of education
13. Have some working experience of general maintenance and repair work (especially painting and decorating, carpentry, plumbing and basic electrical work)
14. Good working knowledge of small hand tools
15. Good understanding of Health & Safety
16. Punctual and reliable
17. Ability to manage own time effectively
18. Be flexible and able to work unsupervised and as part of a small team
19. Be fit and able to carry heavy loads and work in all weathers
