We are seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing IT team, supporting technology services across four primary brands: Murdock Builders Merchants, Brooks Timber and Building Supplies Ltd, The Lotus Group, and Dublin Plywood & Veneer Company Limited (DPV). Established in 1982 and headquartered in Newry, Northern Ireland, Murdock Builders Merchants has expanded to 14 branches and two timber processing facilities, becoming a leading supplier of building materials across Ireland.
Brooks, with a history dating back to the late 1700s, operates seven branches across Ireland, supplying timber and building materials. The Lotus Group specializes in asset and property management services in retail, leisure, and residential sectors. DPV, founded in 1946, supplies panel products to the furniture trade in Ireland.
Role Summary
The IT Infrastructure Engineer will support and maintain on-premise and cloud infrastructure, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of IT systems. Key responsibilities include managing networking, cybersecurity, servers, disaster recovery, and providing L3 support. The role is primarily based in Murdock Builders Merchants' Head Office in Newry, with a hybrid working arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and maintain on-premise and cloud infrastructure (Azure, Windows Server, Active Directory, Citrix, VMware, etc.).
2. Support branch connectivity, troubleshoot VPNs, SD-WAN, routers, and firewalls.
3. Provide L3 support for escalated issues related to servers, networks, and security.
4. Monitor and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
5. Ensure cybersecurity best practices, including firewalls, EDR, and vulnerability management.
6. Manage server backups, patching, and system updates.
7. Collaborate with ERP teams to support system availability, database performance, and integration.
8. Assist in IT infrastructure projects such as system upgrades and migrations.
9. Maintain IT documentation, policies, and procedures.
10. Support vendor management and procurement for IT hardware and services.
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
* At least 2 years of experience in IT infrastructure, system administration, or network engineering.
* Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, Azure, Active Directory, M365, Hyper-V).
* Experience with firewalls, networking (SonicWall, Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki), and VPNs.
* Knowledge of remote access technologies (Citrix / RDP).
* Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and enterprise security tools.
* Experience with backup solutions, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations.
* Excellent troubleshooting skills.
* IT certifications (CCNA, MCSE, Azure, CISSP) are advantageous.
* Legal right to work in the UK/Ireland required.
