Overall Purpose
To work with scientific researchers to care for the health and welfare of a breeding colony of rhesus macaques, including daily husbandry duties such as cleaning and feeding, and maintaining accurate records. All work is governed by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act.
Key Responsibilities
* Check health and welfare of the animals.
* Address welfare needs, including habituation and training.
* Maintain cleanliness in animal rooms.
* Record keeping.
* Read and adhere to SOPs and risk assessments; be willing to work overtime to cover animal requirements.
Person Requirements
* Education / Qualifications / Training
o Essential: Five GCSEs at grade C or above.
o Desirable: Computer literacy.
* Previous Work Experience
o Essential: Working and adhering to instructions/protocols/processes.
o Desirable: Basic animal husbandry; Good communication skills; Attention to detail; Genuine interest in animal welfare; Basic computer skills; Experience working to SOPs; Experience with computerised record keeping; Experience working as part of a team.
* Personal Skills / Behaviours / Qualities
o Essential: Able to work as part of a team and under supervision of senior personnel.
