Overview
Staffordshire County Council has a vacancy for a social worker in the Children in Care and Care Leavers team in Burton Upon Trent, East Staffordshire. The role supports children who cannot live with their families without local authority involvement.
ASYE Programme
For newly qualified social workers, Staffordshire offers a well‑established ASYE programme that provides supportive training, a protected workload, protected study leave and regular assessment.
* Monthly bespoke ASYE training sessions with social work educators.
* Protected workload and protected study leave.
* Regular meetings with an ASYE assessor and manager to review support and development.
Main Responsibilities
* Work with children and their families from the second child‑in‑care review or full care order until return home or their 18th birthday and young adulthood.
* Carry out key statutory duties within a children‑in‑care team, supporting children to flourish while in care.
* Support families to make positive changes and reunite as soon as possible while helping young people develop life skills and positive relationships.
How We Work
Staffordshire uses a Restorative Practice framework, a strength‑based approach that works in partnership with children and families. New employees will receive specific restorative practice training.
The Ideal Candidate
* Good understanding of how childhood experiences impact children and ability to help young people overcome challenges.
* Passionate about supporting families to care for their children safely without intervention.
* Committed to developing young people’s key life skills through pathway planning and partnership with families.
Requirements for Newly Qualified Social Workers
* Expect to become a Qualified Social Worker within 9 months.
* Registered with or on track to be registered with Social Work England within 9 months.
* Have a current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Pay is £33,699 until qualification, then £39,152.
Interview
The interview will take place the week commencing 27th April.
