The Head of Technical provides technical leadership across the business while contributing to the company’s commercial success through technically-led opportunities.
The role combines coatings expertise, specification support and quality leadership with client engagement and commercial awareness. The successful candidate will act as the company’s internal authority on coatings systems, preparation methods and application standards while supporting the sales function in securing technically complex projects.
Working closely with both the sales and operations teams, the Head of Technical ensures projects are correctly specified, risks are managed effectively and technical standards are maintained across project delivery.

Working closely with the commercial and operational leadership teams, the Head of Technical will help ensure the business continues to deliver high-quality projects while strengthening its technical reputation in the market.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide technical leadership across the business for coatings systems, preparation methods and application standards.
* Support the sales function with technical input on complex bids and project specifications.
* Prepare estimates and quotations for specialist or technically complex projects.
* Advise clients on appropriate coating systems, preparation methods and long‑term performance.
* Develop and maintain relationships with key coating manufacturers and suppliers.
* Ensure projects are specified and delivered in accordance with manufacturer guidance and industry standards.
* Provide technical support to site teams when challenges arise during project delivery.
* Review specifications and ensure technical compliance across projects.
* Support the development of internal technical knowledge within the business.
* Assist with training of estimators and operational teams on coatings systems and best practice.
* Represent the business externally in technical discussions with clients, consultants and suppliers.
* Contribute directly to company revenue through technically‑led project opportunities.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will be:
* An experienced coatings professional with strong knowledge of industrial coating systems, preparation methods and application standards.
* Comfortable working across both commercial and operational environments, providing practical technical advice that supports both winning work and delivering projects successfully.
* Able to maintain supplier relationships and have the ability to engage confidently with clients on technical matters through strong industry knowledge.
* Confident combining technical expertise with commercial awareness and a have practical approach to problem solving.
* Experienced within industrial coatings, construction, building refurbishment or industrial services would be advantageous.
SUCCESS IN THE ROLE
Within 12 months the Head of Technical will have strengthened the company’s technical capability while contributing to revenue growth through technically‑led project opportunities.
They will have supported the sales function in developing technically robust proposals, strengthened relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers, and ensured projects are specified and delivered using appropriate systems.
They will also have improved internal technical knowledge and supported operational teams in maintaining consistently high quality standards across project delivery.
