REPORST TO:Senior Educational Psychologist
RESPONSIBLE FOR:As part of the EA Psychology Service, the post holder will provide, under the supervision of the Principal Educational Psychologist and a Senior Educational Psychologist, a psychological service as outlined below.
JOB PURPOSE
* The EA Psychology Service strives to work in partnership with parents, schools, and other professionals to ensure that all children and young people develop and learn through effective education, with a particular emphasis on those experiencing difficulties within education.
* The post holder will provide, under supervision, a psychological service, working at different levels within the education system, linking casework to policy and strategy development. This includes providing direct support to children and young people and working with others to achieve positive outcomes.
* Educational Psychologists support schools in creating positive, inclusive environments that foster resilience and wellbeing, positively impacting mental health.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Early Intervention and Consultation
* Consult with schools to establish preventative and early intervention strategies.
* Consult with statutory organisations regarding access to meet the needs of children with emergent special educational needs.
2. Assessment and Intervention
* Conduct developmental/psychological assessments of children with Special Educational Needs referred to the EA Psychology Service, in line with the Code of Practice.
* Advise parents and teachers on meeting children’s Special Educational Needs.
* Contribute to statutory assessments, providing psychological advice as per the Code of Practice.
* Assist in planning and implementing intervention programmes for children with SEND.
* Help schools improve outcomes for children with SEND.
3. Management of Activities
* Manage a caseload, prioritising workload according to service guidelines.
* Maintain appropriate records to support management information systems.
* Contribute to the provision of educational psychology services across a geographical area under supervision.
* Participate in clinics and working groups as required.
4. Raising Achievement and Organisational Development
* Work towards targets in the EA Psychology Service Development Plan.
* Participate in team and service development meetings.
* Contribute to service development through staff appraisals.
* Work with schools on whole-school strategies and interventions.
5. Service Development
* Work towards achieving the targets set in the service development plan.
* Attend meetings to contribute to service development.
* Participate in staff appraisals.
* Support schools with whole-school support strategies.
6. Training
* Attend CPD courses following BPS guidelines.
* Assist in training Educational Psychologists in training.
* Provide advice and support to EA officers, schools, and parents.
* Contribute to in-service training for staff and professionals.
7. Supervisory Responsibilities
* Supervise clerical staff, psychologists in training, and psychology assistants as required.
8. Supervision Received
* Supervised by the Principal and Senior Educational Psychologists, responsible for induction and appraisal.
9. Work Complexity
* Requires systematic, analytical problem-solving and application of psychological theory for SEND needs.
* Creative thinking in addressing complex learning and behavioural issues.
