Residential Practitioner- Children’s Home, Gloucester. Gloucestershire County Council. Permanent contract. Salary £30,024 - £32,597 per annum (plus enhanced pay for unsociable hours and sleep-in allowance). Closing Date: Ongoing. This post is open to job share (18.5 hours per week).

We’re launching new purpose-driven children’s homes designed to meet specific needs, built around trauma-informed care, clinical support, and staff development — empowering practitioners to deliver high standards of care.

Our homes include one small home for short-term care, a larger home for older children with long-term residential care, and a third home for step-down from residential care to foster care or a return home.
About you
We are looking for individuals who are:
* passionate about helping children and young people flourish
* empathetic, patient, and resilient, with strong teamwork and communication skills
* able to build trusting relationships with children who may have experienced trauma
* flexible to work shifts, evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins
* committed to learning and professional development
Experience in residential care is welcomed but not essential; full training and ongoing support are provided.
Qualifications
* Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) or an equivalent qualification, or a commitment to achieving this within two years of commencing employment if not already held
* a full driving licence and willingness to drive
* DBS clearance
About the Role
As a Residential Practitioner, you will:
* deliver high-quality, personalised care in a safe and nurturing environment
* use a trauma-informed approach to support emotional healing and growth
* encourage positive behaviour, life skills, and independence
* work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to implement tailored care plans
* support children in education, recreation, and personal development
* handle challenging situations with professionalism and therapeutic techniques
* ensure the home runs smoothly and meets safeguarding and regulatory standards
Typical shift pattern: 10:00am – 11:00pm + sleep-in; 7:00am – 10:30am.

* Any hours worked between 20:00 – 06:00, weekends and Bank Holidays attract an unsociable payment over and above the basic salary for this post.
