Associate Palliative Care Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team at North Manchester General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be joining an established team who provide specialist palliative care expertise across the acute care setting. The team values close working relationships with medical, nursing and social health care colleagues. We have a firm commitment to the education and training of others and promoting quality and excellence in palliative and end of life care across Manchester Foundation NHS Trust.

For this Band 6 post, we are keen to appoint a team orientated, highly motivated and experienced nurse, who has specialist palliative care knowledge.

The successful post holder will have a high level of autonomy in the management of their caseload, and will need to be a skilled decision maker and able to prioritise workload.

The team provides a 7 day service and this post requires weekend working on a rota basis. In joining our team, you will be welcomed into a supportive and nurturing work environment. Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Provide evidence-based specialist palliative care, advice and support to patients with a diagnosis of cancer or other life-threatening illness, and their carers. Working collaboratively with multi-professionals across primary and secondary care and liaising with the Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team Lead where appropriate. The service provides support seven days a week.

Provide specialist palliative care advice, education and training to all members of the multi professional team across all care settings as the service requires.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* 1st level registered Nurse
* Post registration qualification in palliative care, cancer care or lifelimiting conditions/Evidence of CPD related to palliative care
* Degree / degree pathway in health related subject
* Teaching qualification eg: Preparation for Mentorship or equivalent


Experience

* Experience at B5 OR 6 with demonstrable evidence of supporting patients with cancer or life-limiting conditions in a palliative care/community/acute hospital setting
* Experience in teaching
* Experience in audit/project management


Skills

* Effective communication skills both verbal and written
* Ability to apply research findings
* Demonstrate an understanding of current cancer and palliative care issues
* Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritise own workload
* Ability to work alone as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Basic computer literacy
* Relevant communication skills training eg: Sage and Thyme


Work Related Circumstances

* Ability to travel between care settings
* Able to work flexibly
* Satisfactory attendance record, reliable and punctual
* Committed to own CPD and service development
