This is an exciting time to be joining Bedford Hospital, which merged with Luton Hospital in April 2020 to become part of the dynamic Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. There has been improved working and strategic developments across both sites and the Trust aims to work towards implementing integration benefits to the fullest in future.
This post is based at the Bedford Hospital site but it is anticipated that the successful candidate may work at Luton & Dunstable hospital 1 day a week in future.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital
2. To deliver a high-quality imaging service with a focus on subspeciality interests as applicable
3. To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department, the management of all patients referred to the Trust
4. To share in the general radiology work of the department including the on call rota
5. To support radiographers and sonographer staff in the department and also be involved in the teaching and training of specialist registrars grade, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students
6. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
7. To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD)

Qualifications
Essential criteria
8. Medical Degree
9. Relevant postgraduate FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
10. MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
Clinical Effectiveness
Essential criteria
11. Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD
12. Experience of guideline appraisal
13. Participation in relevant local audits
14. Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
Desirable criteria
15. Participation in relevant national research and audits
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
16. Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Cardiothoracic
17. Excellent all round experience of DGH work
18. Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
Registration
Essential criteria
19. Full GMC Registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)
20. Entry on GMC Specialist Register in General Radiology via CCT (or within 6 months from date of interview) or CESR (Must be on Specialist Register by date of interview)

24. Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.

27. Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance
Teaching
Essential criteria
28. Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students

29. Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course
