<div><h3>Waste Assessor</h3><p>Location: Tockwith, North Yorkshire</p><p>Salary: £-Attractive salary</p><h3>Key Responsibilities</h3><ul><li><b>Waste Assessment & Classification:</b><ul><li>Provide timely technical assessments of waste enquiries by accurately characterising and classifying waste materials.</li><li>Liaise with clients to gather the information needed to help prepare quotations and generate waste collection documentation, packing instructions and labels.</li><li>Verify waste descriptions, EWC codes, and supporting documentation (LoW codes, SDS, WM3 assessments, consignment notes).</li><li>Conduct WM3‑compliant hazard property assessments (HP4, HP6, HP8, HP10, HP14 etc.).</li><li>Assist in routing waste to appropriate treatment, recovery, or disposal outlets.</li></ul></li><li><b>Documentation & Duty of Care:</b><ul><li>Check and validate Duty of Care paperwork, consignment notes, and transfer notes.</li><li>Ensure all waste movements comply with permit conditions and legal requirements.</li><li>Maintain accurate digital and paper records for audit readiness.</li><li>Support the creation of WM3 assessments, sampling plans, and classification reports.</li></ul></li><li><b>Sampling & Testing:</b><ul><li>Take representative samples in line with technical guidance.</li><li>Prepare samples for laboratory analysis (chemical, physical, and ecotoxicity testing).</li><li>Interpret laboratory results and convert them into WM3 hazard property outcomes.</li><li>Update waste acceptance criteria (WAC) and internal classification databases.</li></ul></li><li><b>Operational Support:</b><ul><li>Work closely with the transfer station, yard staff, and transfer chemist to ensure safe and efficient waste handling.</li><li>Provide technical guidance to operatives on segregation, contamination, and hazard controls.</li><li>Provide holiday cover for the transfer station.</li></ul></li><li><b>Compliance & Environmental Protection:</b><ul><li>Ensure all activities align with the site Environmental Permit, management system, and EA guidance.</li><li>Support internal audits, EA inspections, and corrective action plans.</li><li>Identify and report environmental risks, non‑compliances, and near misses.</li><li>Promote best practice in pollution prevention, spill response, and safe waste handling.</li></ul></li></ul><h3>Qualifications & Experience</h3><ul><li>Educated to degree level in Chemistry or closely related subject</li><li>Experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or laboratory work.</li><li>WAMITAB, CIWM, or equivalent qualifications (desirable).</li><li>Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations and WM3 (essential).</li><li>Full UK driving licence.</li></ul><p>This is a full time, permanent role working 40 hours per week, 8:30am-5pm Mon - Thurs and 8am-4:30pm Fri.</p><p>Ref: J9654</p></div>
