Technical Author – Slaughterhouses and Animal By-products – UK BAT – 32429
Job Description
Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical author in the UK BAT team you can. Large slaughterhouses and animal by‑products installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. The UK BAT Author is responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft BAT Conclusions and prepare technical documents.
* Liaise with technical working groups and stakeholders.
* Present final documents suitable for publication as a UK‑wide environmental standard.
* Analyse technical arguments and data critically.
* Work with project management to deliver on time.
* Support and train staff for inclusive incident management objectives.
Key Qualifications
* At least 5 years’ working experience in the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
* Solid understanding of environmental regulation and policy in the UK and EU, including IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
* Specialist knowledge of the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
* Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
* Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Project management skills and drive to complete work.
* Ability to build relationships and work effectively across cultures.
Experience / Skills
* Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
* Understanding implications of BAT conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment.
* Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources.
* Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus.
* Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
Travel Travel and overnight stays may be required.
Location The role is based in the UK; specific location details can be discussed during the interview.
