Contract Role: Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst - Banking - Inside IR35
Location: UK (Remote) or Denmark (Hybrid - 10 days/month onsite)
Rate: £475-£575/day (Inside IR35, via umbrella)
Duration: 6 months+

Salt is working with a global consultancy delivering high-level mainframe optimisation services to a major banking client. We are recruiting an experienced Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst to support proactive tuning and capacity planning across critical z/OS environments.
This role sits within a Performance Competence Centre, with responsibility for system and application performance diagnostics, workload forecasting, and tooling optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Monitor, analyse, and tune mainframe system and application performance
* Conduct capacity forecasting and support infrastructure provisioning
* Lead performance data analysis and reporting using SMF, RMF, WLM
* Develop and maintain custom tooling and dashboards
* Liaise with technical teams to prevent capacity-related issues
* Create documentation, reports, and performance improvement plans
Essential Skills:
* 7+ years' experience in mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning
* Strong knowledge of SMF, RMF, WLM, and performance management tooling (APA, MXG, SAS)
* Ability to analyse batch and online application performance
* Comfortable working in high-availability banking environments
Desirable Skills:
* Experience with ELK stack or in-house dashboarding tools
* Coding experience in REXX, Python, Assembler, or PL/1
* Familiarity with z/OS system internals and workload behaviours
Working Model & Compliance:
* UK-based contractors: Fully remote. Must work via umbrella (inside IR35)
* Denmark-based contractors: Hybrid model, 10 days/month onsite
* Background checks to be completed post-onboarding
