Due to growth in applications at MidKent College Medway Campus and Medway School of Arts in The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, we are looking to recruit several Art and Design lecturers to teach across a range of courses from L1 to L5 on Foundation Degree / HND Programmes. We require a diverse range of skills to facilitate our growing number of courses in fine art, fashion design, graphics, and digital media.

We are seeking candidates from fine art, textiles, and fashion design backgrounds with the ability to design, deliver, and assess high-quality creative study programmes across our FE and HE courses at Medway School of Art and MKC Medway Campus. Focus areas include fine art, textiles, and fashion, with skills in pattern cutting and fashion design. The ideal candidate should be passionate about inspiring and motivating students through outstanding teaching and learning strategies that challenge and encourage excellence.

We are looking for dynamic, highly skilled, and experienced academic practitioners with industry experience and/or postgraduate degrees in their subject areas. A passion for teaching and a commitment to developing students’ employability skills within their specialist field are essential.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

The following outlines the main priorities for this role, as directed by senior management, and is not an exhaustive list:

1. Deliver high-quality teaching in accordance with college standards and relevant validating bodies, including preparing teaching materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans, developing and updating curricula, and undertaking quality assurance activities. Assess students' work, monitor progress, and maintain records of assessments and results, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, equal opportunities, and health and safety policies.
2. Manage day-to-day course activities such as communication, problem-solving, timetable management, arranging cover lessons, planning work experience and enrichment activities, coordinating internal verification, and liaising with relevant departments to ensure compliance and consistency across sites.
3. Assist with recruitment and enrolment processes, including managing qualifications on entry, transfers, and late enrolments, and organizing induction programmes for students.
4. Conduct meetings with students to set and review SMART targets, support UCAS applications, and address pastoral and academic needs, liaising with college support services as needed.
5. Monitor attendance, retention, and achievement, and implement action plans to improve student outcomes.
6. Support English and Maths provision through in-class and one-to-one support, monitoring attendance and progress.
7. Participate in meetings, parent evenings, marketing events, and other college activities, including planning and overseeing parent consultation meetings.
8. Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses, training methods, and materials, participate in CPD activities, and mentor new lecturers.
9. Contribute to departmental administration, including attendance recording, reporting, and updating the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
10. Engage in college committees and quality assurance processes such as verification, moderation, course reviews, and Self-Assessment Reviews (SAR).

For lecturers on SPS points 5-8, additional duties include internal verification/moderation, coordinating action plans from SAR and reviews, resource management, supporting curriculum and quality issues, and liaising with higher education institutions.
