We are looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. You will work with Senior Investigation Managers and our Major Incident Room to lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes. Your knowledge and experience will help drive cases forward by coordinating and overseeing all aspects of investigations from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and, ultimately, prosecution.
This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of our National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The National Investigations Team is a nationally dispersed group of Investigators focused on bringing the most serious environmental offenders to justice.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate major investigations into environmental crime, including identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, and allocating actions.
* Coordinate evidence gathering and interviews, manage casefiles, and support prosecutions.
* Work alongside Partnership Organisations and lead, drive and develop investigative teams and complex investigations.
* Contribute to developing the team and progressing investigations at a national level.
* Travel as required for meetings and operational duties and respond to incidents as part of the incident role (may include additional payment and training).
Experience and Skills
* High level of attention to detail, hard-working, self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation (PACE and CPIA), and good verbal/written communication skills.
* Basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime, experience leading serious criminal investigations, and familiarity with Major Incident Rooms is desirable.
* Demonstrated ability to drive initiatives, build and develop investigation teams, and use initiative to find solutions.
* Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting within a 6-month probationary period; a full driving licence is required.
Role specifics & Conditions
* Hybrid working arrangement (home and nearest Environment Agency Office) with frequent travel for meetings/operational duties.
* Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you must be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support as required. Incidents may attract additional payment; full training and workplace adjustments available.
