Overview
Laurelvale Cricket Club are seeking an experienced and dynamic Bar & Events Supervisor to oversee the operations of our bustling bar. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and will be responsible for the overall smooth and profitable operation of the club's bar facilities and the successful organisation and execution of club events. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, attention to detail, and a focus on maintaining excellent customer service and club standards.
Hours of Work
Total Hours per week
Thursday - 7.30pm-12.30am (if no pool it is closed-pool league runs from Sept - April)
Friday - 4pm -11.30pm
Saturday - 4pm- 12am
Sunday- 2-3 hrs for Clean up/cashing up
These hours could also increase based on events
Key Responsibilities
1. Stock, Financial & Operations Management
· Manage all weekly stock taking and inventory for all beverage products and operational supplies.
· Proactively order and maintain adequate stock levels of all bar supplies, including beverages, consumables, and gas, utilising suppliers (e.g., Tennents/Drinks Inc) and seeking out best offers to maximise profitability.
· Conduct weekly cash up procedures, ensuring accurate reconciliation, maintaining detailed financial records, and processing bank lodgements.
· Ensure adequate change is maintained for all floats.
· Act as the named key holder responsible for opening, closing, and securing the premises for deliveries, maintenance, inspections, or other required access.
· Arrange for and oversee the monthly emptying and maintenance of hired machines, such as the jukebox.
2. Staff & Scheduling Management
· Arrange and manage staff shifts and duties to ensure adequate coverage for regular operating hours, events, and club activities.
· Oversee the bar team to maintain high standards of service, cleanliness, and efficiency.
3. Events & Bookings Management
· Organise and promote a calendar of club events, including but not limited to quiz nights, DJ nights, and annual celebrations (e.g., Easter, Halloween, Christmas parties).
· Manage all party and function enquiries, handling bookings, maintaining accurate records, dealing with specific customer queries, and arranging requirements (e.g., opening early for set-up).
· Coordinate special bar openings and service for specific club activities, such as the weekly pilates class and during the cricket season (April - September) for matches and junior practice.
4. Facilities, Maintenance & Compliance
· Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and tidiness across all areas, including weekly deep cleaning of both bars, the lobby, toilets, behind the bars, and store rooms, as well as after-party clean up.
· Conduct weekly fire alarm checks and monthly emergency lighting checks, diligently keeping required records.
· Coordinate and oversee scheduled maintenance activities, such as line cleaning and inspections.
· Report any maintenance issues requiring external repair to the Club Committee promptly.
5. Marketing & Communications
· Manage and update the club's communication channels (e.g., Facebook page and Yodeck screen) to effectively advertise and promote upcoming events and club news.
6. General Duties
· The duties listed above are not exhaustive, and the Manager will be expected to perform additional jobs as required to meet the operational needs of the club and its events.
Required Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria
The ideal candidate must demonstrate the following:
· Experience: Proven, substantial experience managing a bar, hospitality, or retail establishment, preferably in a club or events-focused setting.
· Financial Acumen: Demonstrable ability to handle cash management, reconciliation, stock control, and budgeting (including placing efficient orders and seeking the best offers).
· Licensing & Compliance: Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations, licensing laws, and fire safety protocols.
· People Management: Experience in scheduling, training, and supervising staff, and delegating duties effectively.
· Customer Service: A professional, friendly, and helpful manner when dealing with customers, event bookers, and club members.
· Organisation & Time Management: Exceptional ability to multitask, prioritise duties, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines for ordering, cleaning, and event setup.
· Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with suppliers, the committee, staff, and the public (especially for event promotion and enquiries).
· Flexibility: The willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the club's operational needs and events schedule.
Desirable Criteria
· Previous experience with event planning and promotion (e.g., using social media and on-site displays like Yodeck).
· Possession of a personal liquor licence or relevant hospitality qualification.
· Familiarity with basic inventory software or electronic point of sale (EPOS) systems.
