Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Supplier Quality Engineer to join our dynamic Supply Chain team. You’ll be responsible for ensuring supplier capability, capacity, and performance meet or exceed production requirements, driving the highest quality standards across our supply base.
The Supplier Quality Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the quality, capability, and performance of Cox Marine’s supply base. Working closely with suppliers and internal teams, this role is responsible for developing, auditing, and improving supplier quality systems to ensure components meet rigorous engineering and production standards. The position supports both ongoing production and new product introduction, driving continuous improvement and maintaining high‑quality standards throughout the supply chain.
Responsibilities
* Ensure supplier performance, capability, and capacity meet production needs through robust quality standards.
* Manage supplier quality across multiple commodities in close collaboration with the purchasing team.
* Support Engineering project teams on new product introduction and development programmes.
* Conduct supplier assessments and surveillance audits.
* Review and approve PPAPs (Production Part Approval Process) in line with project deadlines.
* Coordinate internal and external measurement activities to validate PPAPs.
* Assist suppliers in developing and maintaining Component Quality Plans.
* Create and maintain component inspection plans.
* Raise Defective Material Reports (DMRs) and ensure high‑quality 8D reports are completed, providing support where necessary.
* Verify implementation and effectiveness of supplier corrective actions.
* Analyse supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer or Supplier Development Engineer within automotive or similar high‑precision manufacturing sectors.
* Practical experience with ISO 9001 and internal auditing.
* Deep understanding of PPAP requirements.
* Proficient in quality tools and methodologies (8D, Ishikawa, 5‑Why, SPC, Pareto, etc.).
* Strong knowledge of metrology and inspection methods/equipment.
* Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings.
* Understanding of manufacturing processes.
* Strong planning, prioritisation, and self‑management skills.
* Competent in presenting data clearly and accurately.
* Must have the right to work in the UK and live within a commutable distance of the office.
* Degree in an engineering discipline or recognised Quality Management qualification.
* Experience with IATF 16949:2016 and/or ISO 14001.
* Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt certification or similar continuous improvement accreditation.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Highly organised, self‑motivated, and logical thinker.
