Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a specialist Band 6 post to join our Occupational Therapy Acute Palliative Care team within the Victoria Hospital.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Occupational Therapist to work alongside colleagues within the medical and surgical teams, primarily working with palliative patients.

You will have a strong interest in working with patients requiring palliative care to deliver effective, evidence-based treatment to optimise their occupational performance and to promote safe and timely discharge from hospital.

Responsibilities

* Have a positive experience of managing your own case load and of multi‑agency working and will engage in quality improvement activities both collectively and independently.
* Support and supervise registered and non‑registered staff.
* Travel throughout Fife effectively in a timely manner as required, to meet the needs of the service.

Clinical Support

The occupational therapy department supports continuing professional development through supervision, TURAS appraisal, in‑service programme, and training.

Contact

For informal enquiries, please contact Marianne McLeod on 01592 643355 ext 20013 or Lorna Brocklesby on ext 21646.

Application Guidance

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.

Use AI wisely: it’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.

Applications that rely on AI‑generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Right to Work

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre‑employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre‑settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licensed Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

Criminal Records

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a “regulated role”, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.

Equality, Diversity & Flexible Working

We offer flexible working and family‑friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Work Hours

As of 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
