About Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN)
We are passionate about powering a sustainable future. As pioneers in the renewable energy space, we invest in people, communities, and a greener tomorrow. Since stepping into the renewables arena in 2010, we have become a top investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe and the largest backer of solar power in Europe. We manage over £7bn in renewable energy assets worldwide and are looking for passionate individuals to join our diverse and dedicated team.
Role Overview
The Construction Asset Manager will act as OEGEN’s representative and client agent for construction projects, ensuring that time, cost, quality, HSE, and ESG standards are consistently achieved. The role covers multi‑technology projects (wind, solar, storage, and hybrids) and works across the full lifecycle – from due diligence, contract negotiation, and construction oversight, through to handover and operational readiness. You will report to the Construction Director (CoE) and work closely with fund‑aligned commercial and financial teams, technical asset managers, and external partners (EPCs, OEMs, owner’s engineers, advisors, and regulators). The position requires an average of 3 days in the office per week in London.
What you’ll do
* Project ownership & oversight – Lead OEGEN’s oversight of certain construction projects, ensuring they are delivered against the investment case safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.
* Manage the construction risk register, identifying and mitigating risks early, and capitalising on opportunities.
* Oversee contract scope, EPC/OEM delivery, and major remedial works across multiple technologies.
* Case & risk management (CoE framework) – Log, triage, and manage construction‑related cases in the CoE system, ensuring transparent reporting and escalation where required; provide structured risk and opportunity reports to fund leads and boards.
* Technical and contractual leadership – Support negotiation and drafting of EPC and O&M contracts, ensuring technical appendices and scopes of work reflect best‑in‑market standards; critique technical due diligence reports, yield assumptions, construction plans, challenging advisors and contractors where necessary.
* Stakeholder & fund engagement – Present progress, risks, and recommendations to boards, lenders, and fund heads bi‑weekly ops meetings, monthly briefings, quarterly reviews; collaborate with commercial and financial teams on transactions (financing, acquisitions, divestments), ensuring construction considerations are fully addressed.
* HSE & ESG – Champion OEGEN’s safety culture, focusing on contractor compliance with CDM and SHE policies, and embedding ESG principles in construction delivery; review and enforce project‑specific HSE plans and conduct regular site visits.
* Handover & continuous improvement – Ensure smooth transition from construction into operations, including delivery of as‑built documentation, warranties, permits, and asset readiness packs; capture and embed lessons learned into CoE frameworks, driving continual improvement.
What you’ll need
* Proven experience in construction project management within renewable energy (wind, solar, or storage) with multi‑technology exposure preferred.
* Degree or professional qualification in engineering (electrical, civil, or mechanical).
* Strong knowledge of EPC delivery, contractual frameworks, and project finance interfaces.
* Deep understanding of HSE regulations, CDM, ESG requirements, and risk management in construction.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, Gantt charts, technical specifications, and complex contractual documentation.
* Strong commercial and numerical acumen, with experience managing budgets and financial risk reporting.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear recommendations for fund leaders and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Flexibility, resilience, and a “can do” attitude, with the ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
* Willingness to travel regularly across the UK and Europe to project sites.
