Job Overview
The post is for a Band 7 Occupational Health Team Lead and Specialist Practitioner, based at Glan Clwyd. The post holder will lead a multidisciplinary team of Specialist Nurses, RGNs, and administrative staff.
PLEASE NOTE: Applications will only be accepted from staff currently employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
The role is primarily based at Glan Clwyd with occasional travel to other BCUHB sites. It is a part‑time post covering core operating hours of 08.30–17.30 with flexibility within these hours. On‑site attendance is required, although hybrid working is possible. Welsh language skills are desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers welcome.
Responsibilities
* Manage and prioritise the day‑to‑day workload of the regional occupational health service.
* Supervise and deploy nursing staff, ensuring appropriate skill mix.
* Monitor work performance through personal development reviews and arrange relevant training or education.
* Lead fair and clear relationships with staff, implementing sound organisational skills.
* Ensure health and safety needs are assessed for a safe working environment.
* Assist the Occupational Health Manager in implementing and evaluating policies, procedures and protocols.
* Manage a caseload without direct supervision, ensuring client care needs are met.
* Plan service provision for the occupational health & wellbeing service, setting objectives and future strategy.
* Assist in the induction of new Occupational Health staff and training where necessary.
* Take responsibility for the occupational health & wellbeing service in the absence of the Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing.
* Provide delegate coverage for Occupational Health Team Leads at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Wrexham Maelor when required.
* Attend meetings as the delegated service representative, providing specialist information and advice on occupational health & wellbeing issues.
* Coordinate complex and sensitive situations with other relevant multidisciplinary professionals or agencies.
Qualifications
* UK NMC Registered Nurse.
* UK recognised Occupational Health Nursing Qualification.
Desirable Criteria
* Demonstrate a commitment to continuous management/leadership development.
* Certified training in managing health surveillance programmes (e.g., audiometry, spirometry, HAVS, skin assessments).
* Training and mentoring qualification or recognised certificate.
* NEBOSH certificate.
* Counselling qualification.
* Management qualification.
* Teaching qualification.
* Wellbeing qualification.
* Experience of managing a clinical team.
Knowledge
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Significant band 6 or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of national documents and strategies and their impact on service delivery.
* Work across various disciplines at all levels within the organisation and management.
* Working knowledge of current occupational health & wellbeing issues.
Additional Requirements
Essential requirements include a SCPHN Occupational Health qualification, preferably part 3 of the UK NMC Register. Intermediate IT skills are essential, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Teams; experience with other IT systems is desirable.
Applicants must have experience of team leadership or managing a multidisciplinary team.
