Special Care Dentist Band A Part Time, 0.4WTE Based in Chippenham

Permanent

We are looking for an enthusiastic Dentist to join our existing team, providing Special Care and Urgent Care to meet the needs of adults and children in the local community in Chippenham. You should be innovative, flexible and committed to working in a team environment while providing high standards of clinical care.

The post holder will be required to work 8:30-17:00, with one hour for lunch, 2 days per week. Our Community Dental Service has 4 dental clinics, within Wiltshire & Swindon. We work in domiciliary settings and within main hospitals therefore use of a motor vehicle is essential. You will join our team to provide care for our service users, those patients with dental needs outside of general practice, and be supported by a Senior Leadership team, offering mentoring and support and experienced line management.

Main duties of the job

To provide Special Care Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry, and Urgent Care Dentistry, as well as the opportunity to work as part of the Out of Hours Service, offering urgent care to the population of Wiltshire and Swindon. The post holder will be supported to deliver services within the GWHFT Community Dental Service contract and day to day management of a defined clinical area, based at Chippenham Dental Access Centre.

The Service covers the whole of Wiltshire, and the post holder may be required to deliver services from any of our 4 sites and in domiciliary settings. The role may include participating in General Anaesthetic & Inhalation Sedation Lists, and Domiciliary Care.

The job plan for this post is likely to include one day special care and paediatric dentistry, one day to include a session of urgent care, and a session of Special Care and Paediatric Dentistry. To be confirmed with successful candidate.

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities and Duties

Provision of assessment, comprehensive treatment planning and treatment for people with special needs who are unable to obtain care from other providers. These include those clients with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, who are medically compromised or have behavioural problems, as well as children with additional needs, and children under 5 with high caries rates.

Provide dental treatment as required and to undertake urgent, routine and complex treatment in line with Trust protocol and current best practice.

Provision of assessment, treatment planning and treatment of patients in domiciliary settings.

Promote and maintain patients oral health within NHS regulations.

* Work with the wider clinical team, in the provision of high‑quality dental care for the patients.
* Achieve personal performance targets, awareness of the UDA system, working to achieve the targets set by commissioners.
* Meet Band A Dental Officer Competencies as set out within the terms and conditions of the Salaried Dental Service Contract.
* Participate in Clinical Governance Programmes as required by the service including audit, peer review and annual performance appraisal.
* Ensure that standards for Dental Professionals are met as required by the General Dental Council this will include demonstration of required CPD.

Staff should ensure that Estimates are printed for all Band 2 & Band 3 courses of treatment (COT).

Budget Responsibilities

Staff should ensure that completed courses of treatment (COT) are closed when completed.

Responsibilities for People or Training

Provide day‑to‑day supervision of Dental Nurses in a defined clinical area, in association with the Dental Nurse Team Manager.

Other Factors

Post holder may be required to travel throughout Wiltshire, must be a car driver with access to a motor vehicle. Regular VDU usage. Core hours are 8.30 5pm, with one hour for lunch. The Service is the preferred provider for Urgent Care Dentistry during the week, Special Care Dentistry and Paediatric Dentistry for children with additional needs and children under 5 with high caries rates, and the post holder will be committed to offering assessment and treatment to these groups. There will also be the opportunity to join the Out of Hours Dental Service.

Flexibility

Qualifications

* oBDS or equivalent
* oFull registration with GDC
* oVT Number or equivalent
* oCommitment to CPD
* oOn an NHS Dental Performers List
* oFamiliarity with Dental IT systems
* oCommitment to learn NHS rules and regulations


Experience

* oSignificant experience of providing routine dental care
* oExperience working in a Community Dental Service
* oExperience of more complex dental care
* oPrevious use of Systems for Dentists Health practice management software
