Male Peer Support Workers to work with and support ourpatients

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire

Salary: From£24,002 per annum, pro rata

We are excited to be able to recruit to 4 Peer Support Worker positions

3 Positions - 15 hours per week (2 days)- working days will be flexible depending on the needs of the patients

1 Position – 22.50 hours per week (3 days) - working days will be flexible depending on the needs of the patients

About the roles:

* These exciting roles have been developed specifically for individuals who have lived experience of recovery from mental distress or brain injury.
* You’ll use the knowledge gained through your own lived experience to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
* You’ll be working on a ward alongside the clinical team to help patients achieve their recovery goals.
* Working with people with complex psychological needs, you will need to be emotionally and mentally resilient.
* You’ll be expected to draw upon your experiences of recovery and will be given training on the most effective way to do this.
* The posts will also involve contributing to the development of the Peer Support Worker role, particularly within secure mental health services.
* You will receive induction, excellent training and on-going supervision and support, including a network of other peer support workers employed within the Charity.

What you’ll do:

* Building supportive and respectful relationships with patients on the ward
* Supporting others using the personal experience and confidence you have gained having overcome similar challenges
* Assisting nursing staff to help people identify their own recovery goals
* Supporting patients to attend meetings, engaging with activities
* Inputting into ward rounds and writing up patient notes
* Developing the peer support worker programme and role within the Charity
* Modelling personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness

What you’ll need:

* Personal experience of mental health distress or brain injury
* An understanding of your own recovery
* Past and lived experience of using secure mental health services
* Resilience and to be able to know when to ask for help
* An understanding of factors which can affect recovery in mental health
* IT literacy including Microsoft Office and Internet or a willingness to learn
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* The ability to work well in a team
* Empathy, good listening skills, approachability

We require at least 12 months without using secure services and for applicants to be discharged from forensic community services. All posts are subject to enhanced DBS checks, howeverpast convictions will not necessarily be a barrier to employment.
