This unique post provides a rich opportunity for the successful applicant(s) to develop interest and expertise in Simulation-Based education. The 18-month role is for a Simulation Fellow(s) with a total of 4 PAs available per week commencing in August 2025 for an ELHT Trust employed SAS Resident.
The post will be within the Directorate of Education Research and Innovation (DERI) specifically based within the Simulation Team (part of the Clinical Education Team), supporting their training capability and capacity to deliver SBE aligning with the Trust Simulation Strategy and corporate objectives, and National and Local SBE agendas.

Main duties of the job
The core aspect of the role will be to facilitate Simulation Based Education (SBE) Programmes for Residents in the Foundation and IMT programmes as well as assisting the wider Simulation Faculty with improving patient care and experience through training a wide variety of healthcare professionals.
The fellowship will immerse the successful applicant(s) in the field of SBE, developing an in-depth knowledge of this pedagogy including simulation modalities, scenario, and course design, running simulation suite and in-situ simulation sessions and facilitating debriefing. Previous experience of facilitating or developing simulation education is an advantage but not required as training and supervision in delivering SBE will be provided as part of the role.
The successful candidate(s) will display a passion for delivering simulation-based education, have recent acute clinical experience, and demonstrate excellent clinical skills and an understanding of best practice.

To support this vision, we work across the Education and Simulation Centres of the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Teaching Hospitals as well as providing support in clinical practice delivering in situ simulation.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities include:
* Being an active member of the ELHT Simulation Faculty, attending and participating in the ELHT Simulation Faculty meetings.
* Facilitating an adult learning process that creates a safe, non-threatening climate supporting learning across ELHT and promote equal opportunities for access to learning & development to staff from all backgrounds.
* Becoming an ambassador for patient safety and best practice and ensure these are embedded throughout SBE programmes.
* Gaining an understanding of Human Factors and emotional intelligence and their impact within the healthcare setting.
* Delivering SBE across ELHT (both main sites), in the ELHT Simulation Suite, both Learning and Development Centres and in-situ training in clinical areas
* Gaining competence in the use and operation of simulation equipment from task trainers to the use of advanced whole-body simulators (Eg SimMan 3G), simulated patients and virtual platforms.
* Gaining competence in SBE scenario creation, observation of non-technical skills and effective debriefing using agreed templates.
* Assisting with the update of scenarios, lesson plans and teaching resources in line with national and local clinical guideline changes using evidence-based practice, liaising with professional colleagues, reviewing literature, and evaluating feedback.
* Collaborating with divisional faculty, Speciality Leads and Subject Matter Experts to contribute to departmental teachings, developing and implementing state of the art simulation experiences and clinical skills teaching in accordance with best practices in simulation, clinical practice and in alignment with curricular goals.
* Contributing to teaching and facilitating undergraduate curricula including nurses, physician associates, medical students (occasional) and other allied health professionals.
* Developing organisational and management skills through starting new projects and contributing to existing ones.
* Using validated evaluation methods to assess the impact of education on patient care.
* Participating in course evaluation, feedback, and audi.t
* Producing regular reports and audit data on SBE activities to the Simulation and Clinical Assessment Lead which are clear, fluent, and concise.
* Supporting the Clinical Education team’s activity in internal and external events.
* Communicating effectively and professionally with external providers to build and protect departmental reputation.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of medical training programmes and evidence of competence in relevant procedures
* Completion of UK based Medical degree or a minimum of 12 months NHS experience working within an acute clinical environment
Desirable criteria
* An awareness of the national agenda in relation to simulation based education

Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of delivering clinical education and a genuine interest in teaching healthcare professionals
* Good communication skills with ability to motivate colleagues – medical and non-medical at all levels
* Ability to work autonomously

* Ability to organise own workload, prioritising and planning own diary of activities
* Computer literate with the ability to utilise MS packages and the hospital systems
* Experience of working with staff from different professional backgrounds and grades
* Greater than 12 months clinical experience within acute NHS settings
