Job Purpose
* The Highways Inspector is responsible for supporting the Highways team by delivering inspection, monitoring and public liaison services across the borough’s highway network.
* The role ensures that highway assets are maintained to a safe and compliant standard by identifying defects, raising appropriate works orders, and liaising with contractors and utility providers to ensure timely and effective repairs.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Carry out routine visual inspections across the highway network to identify defects and safety issues.
* Record and report defects accurately in line with council procedures.
* Raise works orders with contractors and issue defect notices to utility companies to ensure repairs are actioned.
* Monitor the progress of repair works and ensure completion within agreed timescales.
* Follow up on outstanding issues to ensure all works are completed to the required standards.
Essential Experience Required
* Experience working within highways, construction, maintenance or a similar field‑based inspection role.
* Experience of identifying defects and managing works orders or service requests.
* Experience dealing with customer enquiries or public‑facing interactions.
Essential Qualifications Required
* Basic understanding of highway maintenance and asset inspection.
* Knowledge of health and safety practices within a field‑based environment.
* Familiarity with using IT systems to record inspections and update information.

* Working hours: 7.5 hours per day

* Work pattern - The job is mainly remote, working out in their assigned areas, occasional meetings in office.
* We work on bi-weekly schedule.
