Duties of a SEMH Teaching Assistant
Work closely with students with SEMH needs, offering 1:1 or small group support to help them access learning and manage their emotions and behaviour.
Use strategies to encourage positive choices and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent manner.
Support the delivery of lessons by adapting tasks, clarifying instructions, and helping pupils stay focused and engaged.
Develop trusting, supportive relationships with pupils to boost confidence, emotional resilience, and motivation.
Collaborate with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies to implement personalised support plans (e.g. EHCPs, behaviour plans).
Help maintain a structured, safe, and nurturing classroom atmosphere where all pupils feel respected and supported.
Encourage social skills, emotional regulation, and independence through targeted interventions and daily routines.
Observe and record pupil behaviour, emotional well-being, and academic progress to inform planning and reviews.

Experience working in education, youth work, or with children/young people in other settings
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
