Process Design Lead
Salary starting at £68,000, plus £5,500 car allowance, 18% bonus potential, 27.5 days annual leave and pension.
Full time, 41 hours per week, permanent, national.
About the role
The Process Design Lead is responsible for defining, architecting, and optimising end-to-end process flows across Manufacturing, Processing, and Operations.
The role focuses on designing robust, efficient, and scalable processes that translate business needs and goals into clear technical requirements and process-driven design solutions. These solutions may incorporate mechanical, electrical, and controls & automation elements, but are always grounded in holistic process-centric thinking that integrates people, technology, and workflow.
The Process Design Lead will work closely with stakeholders and operational teams to map, analyse, and engineer process flows, capturing both system steps and human tasks, producing detailed process specifications aligned with Engineering Design Processes. They will ensure that strategic initiatives, spanning new automation, process improvements, and cost reduction activities, are delivered to the agreed scope, quality, time, and cost, with full customer acceptance. As a key leadership role, the Process Design Lead is accountable for bringing the process engineering vision to life and for building and developing a high performing team of design engineers and managers.
Key Accountabilities
* Provide strategic leadership for the design and optimisation of end-to-end operational process flows across Processing and Delivery Operations, ensuring alignment to business strategy, Engineering Design initiatives, and long-term organisational goals.
* Lead multiple complex Engineering Design projects, collaborating with senior stakeholders to identify, evaluate and integrate innovative, cost-effective process improvements that enhance workflow, productivity and operational efficiency.
* Drive continuous improvement across the operational estate, analysing existing workflows, diagnosing performance gaps, and developing high-impact solutions that address technical, operational, and commercial challenges.
* Oversee the governance, planning and delivery of Engineering Design programmes, ensuring compliance with approved project management methodologies, engineering standards, and design assurance processes.
* Manage and allocate both internal and external design resources, including engineering suppliers, ensuring delivery of high quality design outputs that meet programme objectives, budgets, technical requirements and timelines.
Key Skills & Experience
* A strong processing background with proven ability to demonstrate intuitive thinking towards engineering problem solving and solution delivery.
* A proven track record of managing Engineering, Operational and technical relationships.
* Experience in Engineering design principles and compliance with recognised engineering design processes and regulations.
* Proven track record in implementing effective process enhancements and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
* Ability and motivation to deliver process solutions as a recognised business expert through the entire product/service lifecycle.
* A highly motivated individual with a proven track record of successfully delivering Engineering Process Design projects and initiatives in a challenging environment.
