About us

nxzen is a global technology, consulting, and engineering partner advancing the national infrastructure that society depends on. Our mission is to empower energy, utilities, and national infrastructure providers to deliver safer, smarter, and more resilient operations. Backed by leading investors, we combine deep domain expertise with engineering excellence and digital innovation to deliver measurable impact.

We help operators modernise, connect, and optimise national systems to meet performance, compliance, and net-zero goals without compromise.

The role

Joining nxzen's rapidly growing geospatial capability means becoming part of a team redefining how organisations use location intelligence across critical infrastructure sectors. As Lead Consultant (GIS), you will play a pivotal role in shaping our technical delivery, strengthening our client-facing capability, and helping build the next generation of geospatial solutions at nxzen.

Reporting to the UK GIS Lead, you will provide senior technical leadership across day‑to‑day delivery, act as a trusted advisor to clients, and ensure the smooth running of our GIS practice. This role combines hands‑on solution design with operational responsibility, allowing the UK GIS Lead to focus on strategic growth while you help drive high‑quality execution.

You will design and implement Esri desktop, web, and mobile solutions; support project teams; contribute to pre‑sales; and bring credibility and authority to technical client meetings.

The role reports to the UK GIS Lead and will be responsible for:

* Designing and implementing Esri desktop, web, and mobile solutions by collaborating with business stakeholders, consultants, solution architects, and infrastructure and security teams.
* Leading and delivering GIS projects with a deep understanding of the ArcGIS system and the ability to translate complex business needs into scalable, efficient technical solutions.
* Engaging with solution architects and senior stakeholders to deliver complex geospatial technologies.
* Proactively supporting Sales and Business Development teams to identify GIS opportunities and develop high‑quality, accurate technical proposals.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Technical Leadership:

* Lead the delivery of GIS workstreams within projects, ensuring outputs meet client expectations.
* Provide hands‑on technical support across ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other geospatial technologies.
* Troubleshoot issues, guide team members, and act as the technical escalation point.
* Oversee configuration, data preparation, integration tasks, and quality assurance.

Solution Design:

* Design practical, client‑aligned GIS solutions that balance capability, usability, and cost.
* Work with infrastructure, security, and business teams to shape workable solutions.
* Define workflows, data structures, and setup requirements for GIS platforms.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

* Run technical workshops, discovery sessions, and demonstrations.
* Explain technical decisions in clear business language.
* Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders from operational teams to directors.

Data & Analysis:

* Support data preparation, transformation, and migration activities using tools like ArcGIS Pro, FME, Python, or ModelBuilder.
* Develop repeatable processes for data quality, validation, and structured workflows.

Platform Implementation:

* Install and configure ArcGIS Enterprise components.
* Set up map services, web applications, and mobile GIS tools.
* Develop geoprocessing models, scripts, and automation workflows.
* Manage publishing processes, service optimisation, and content organisation across Enterprise and Online environments.
* Configure integrations with common business systems (e.g., asset/work management, customer systems).
* Work with developers or third parties when light customisation or API use is needed.

Documentation & Governance:

* Produce clear configuration guides, processes, solution packs, and how‑to documentation.
* Ensure consistency, repeatability, and adherence to delivery standards.

Practice Support & Capability Development:

* Provide mentoring and informal leadership to junior and mid‑level consultants.
* Share best practice, develop templates, create accelerators, and improve internal processes.
* Support the UK GIS Lead in maturing delivery methods and internal GIS capability.

Essential Skills & Experience:

* Strong hands‑on experience delivering GIS projects using the ArcGIS system.
* Proven track record as a Senior GIS Consultant, Lead GIS Analyst, or similar senior technical role.
* Practical expertise in ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and common Esri apps.
* Strong skills in data preparation, analysis, ETL (using FME or Python), and map/data design.
* Ability to lead client workshops and translate needs into actionable technical work.
* Good understanding of how GIS integrates with wider business and IT systems.
* Excellent communication, organisation, and stakeholder handling.

Desirable (but not essential) Skills & Experience:

* Experience in utilities, infrastructure, or other asset‑intensive sectors.
* Working knowledge of ArcGIS Utility Network.
* Familiarity with Azure/AWS deployments of GIS components.
* Basic scripting or automation experience.
* Experience supporting pre‑sales activities or writing technical proposal content.
* Exposure to non‑Esri/open‑source GIS tools.

Summary

This is an ideal role for an experienced GIS consultant who enjoys leading delivery, solving challenging geospatial problems, and being hands‑on with technology. As a Lead Consultant (GIS), you'll play a central role in delivering impactful solutions for clients while helping grow and shape nxzen's UK GIS capability.
