This role is part of the Gastroenterology and Nutrition Support team, providing dietetic support across Trust sites and working with multidisciplinary gastro teams.
Responsibilities
Provide dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients in the gastroenterology unit.
Accurately assess patients’ clinical needs using a range of nutritional assessment skills.
Offer dietetic advice and support, taking into account ethical, cultural, religious, socio‑economic and educational needs.
Liaise and communicate effectively with other multidisciplinary team members to ensure optimal dietetic care.
Develop and distribute evidence‑based dietary literature for patients and carers.
Participate in service development and implement clinical initiatives.
Supervise and train student dietitians, student nurses and wider clinical teams.
Qualifications
Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels.
Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
Registration with HCPC.
Experience
At least 12 months of post‑registration experience in a clinical area.
In‑depth knowledge of nutritional assessment and screening tools.
Knowledge of all types of nutritional support.
Up‑to‑date with clinical developments and evidence of contributions to clinical meetings or journal clubs.
Working knowledge of computer programmes (word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, dietary analysis, data collection and patient information programmes).
Evidence of clinical audit and/or research.
Evidence of multidisciplinary team work.
Knowledge of record‑keeping and medico‑legal standards.
Experience of training dietetic students.
Additional Criteria
Ability to work through interpreters and use visual aids.
Strong communication, presentation and teaching skills.
Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective workload management and organisational skills.
Experience with relevant equipment (e.g., skin‑fold calipers, enteral feeding equipment, weighing scales, stadiometers).
Plan and deliver a clinical audit programme.
Deputise as appropriate and report‑writing skills.
Ability to complete home enteral feeding discharges competently.
Excellent interpersonal, team working and time‑management skills.
Positive attitude towards nutrition and commitment to CPD.
Flexibility to adapt to changing patient demand.
On‑site availability due to clinical caseload.
