Overview

This is a senior nursing leadership role at NUH. The post holder will act as Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and lead a unit to ensure high standards of care and patient environment. The post holder will provide regular direct clinical care, support governance, and lead a team including Band 6 and 5 nurses and admin staff. Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council is required.


Responsibilities

* Be an effective leader and role model; regularly take charge of the Unit; maintain high standards of care and the care environment.
* Provide regular direct clinical care and support the implementation of clinical and non-clinical governance.
* Support and lead a cohort of Band 6 and 5 nurses and admin team; carry out yearly appraisals; ensure staff training is up to date.
* Ensure the post holder remains registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Training and qualifications


Essential criteria

* Current level one NMC registration RSCN or RN (Child Branch); degree in health/nursing related studies; possession of a mentoring course; paediatric critical care course; APLS; continuing professional development/reflective profile; completion of all local competency packages.
* Paediatric Critical Care Course


Desirable criteria

* Formal leadership and management training; research training/experience; EPALS; evidence of study at Masters level; GIC instructor or equivalent.


Experience


Essential criteria

* Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience including management/leadership experience.
* Clinically credible with paediatric critical care nursing experience; able to use clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to deliver high quality evidence-based education and care of the critically ill child.


Desirable criteria

* Formal leadership and management training; research training/experience; EPALS; evidence of study at Masters level; GIC instructor or equivalent.


Communication and relationships

* Able to present and receive complex information within the multi-professional team.
* Ability to generate and present reports and documents.


Desirable criteria

* Experience in strategic planning for a service.


Analytical and judgement skills

* Able to present and receive complex information within the multi-professional team.


Planning and organisation skills

* Ability to respond to, prioritise and analyse complex problems/situations and ensure effective interventions are put in place.

Salary: The quoted salary will be pro rata for part-time workers.
