This is an excellent opportunity to join the established and expanding Haematology Research team and the NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves working as a Supernumerary Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) within a varied portfolio of early and late phase clinical trials. This is a joint position between the Haematology Research Department and the NIHR CRF unit.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in clinical specialty and research, with motivation to undertake an ACP role. The successful applicant will be paid at Band 7 upon completing the MSc in Advanced Practice, with progression to Band 8A as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The post involves practicing under supervision as a trainee ACP within the R+I division, providing high-quality patient-centered care.
Responsibilities include advanced assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills within an agreed scope of practice, assisting in safe referral, patient review, admission or discharge, attending Haematology research clinics, and inpatient stays. The applicant will also facilitate clinical practice development through research and education of the multidisciplinary team.
The role requires a critical understanding of the increased responsibility and autonomy of the ACP role, practicing within individual limits. The candidate should be an expert practitioner and clinical role model in oncology and haematology research, with expertise in clinical research, protocol treatments, patient management, and monitoring.
Advanced clinical skills in patient assessment and management, including obtaining informed consent, history taking, physical examination, investigations, and clinical management planning, are essential. Delegated clinical trial duties, prescribing within non-medical prescribing capacity, and blood product prescription are also part of the role. Ongoing professional development through training, conferences, and self-reflection is expected.
The Christie is a leading cancer center in Europe, treating over 60,000 patients annually, with extensive radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical, diagnostic, and research services. It hosts one of Europe's largest early clinical trial units, ranked as the best in the UK for cancer research.
