Job summary
:
The post holder isresponsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective clinical care tothe Practice population.
This will be achieved byproviding clinical and managerial leadership to the Urgent Care Practitionersand other staff involved in clinical care within the Urgent Treatment Centreand practice.
The post holder willwork closely with the GPs and management team to deliver the practicepriorities.
The post holder willrepresent Faversham Medical Practice at various fora including, UTC clinical& network meetings as necessary.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Clinical;
1. Oversee safe and effective delivery of clinical care
2. Lead on and undertake relevant audits, including prescribing and PGD audits
3. Lead and participate in reviews of clinical safety and significant incidents issues
4. Manage implementation of any changes recommended from incident reviews and learning events
5. Manage and participate in continuous clinical improvement initiatives
6. Participate in vaccination programmes as appropriate/required
7. Oversee stock control and ordering
8. Oversee the process of the monitoring of emergency equipment, sharps bins, vaccine fridge
9. Work with the Infection Control Lead to ensure all standards are met
Data/quality;
10. Work with the management/administration team on the recording and attainment of QOF standards relevant to the Urgent Care Practitioners team
11. Work with the management/administration team on the achievement of Enhanced Services relevant to the Urgent Care Practitioners team
12. Ensure Patient Group Directives (PGDs) are read, signed and used appropriately
13. Take part in the development of PGDs as required
14. Keep up to date with CQC requirements and inform the Urgent Care Practitioners team of any changes as relevant
15. Ensure an adequate system of peer review/clinical audit is undertaken within the team to monitor and maintain clinical standards
Human Resources;
16. Manage Urgent Care Practitioners rota and in doing so maintain adequate staffing levels
17. Carry out the Urgent Care Practitioners teams annual appraisals and 6 monthly reviews
18. Review and approve training requests from the UCP team in collaboration with the management team and GP lead for HR
19. Identify training requirements within the Urgent Care Practitioners team
20. Carry out back to work interviews after episodes of sick leave
21. Deal with requests for annual leave/TOIL/time off for other reasons, authorising or rejecting any requests in line with the Staff Handbook and in discussion with the HR Manager as appropriate.
22. Sign off overtime
23. Deal with change of hours requests in conjunction with the Business Manager
24. Carry out exit interviews with the HR Manager
25. Deal with general day-to-day queries from members of the Urgent Care Practitioners
26. Take part in UCP/UTC meetings
27. Responsible for cross line management when another line manager is absent.

Health & safety:
The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):
31. Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
32. Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
33. Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements
34. Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice including provision, ordering, availability and ongoing correct usage by staff
35. Responsible for hand hygiene across the practice
36. Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice
37. Active observation of current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues as appropriate
38. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
39. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training of others across the full range of infection control and patient processes
40. Monitoring practice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that provision of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc are sufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated as appropriate
41. Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use, storage and disposal
42. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsible management
43. Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
44. Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifying issues and hazards / risks in relation to other work areas within the business, and assuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation (where appropriate) with other sector managers
45. Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum twice annually)
46. Routine management of own team / team areas, and maintenance of work space standards
47. Waste management including collection, handling, segregation, container management, storage and collection
48. Spillage control procedures, management and training
49. Decontamination control procedures, management and training, and equipment maintenance
50. Maintenance of sterile environments
