Lead DevOps Engineer / Cloud Architect - Derby (Hybrid) - Up to £85,000
Derbyshire / Staffordshire / East Midlands / West Midlands
A growing HealthTech organisation is looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer / Cloud Architect to take ownership of its cloud and DevOps landscape, shaping the strategy, setting the standards, and defining how modern engineering should be done. This is a rare opportunity to step into a role with real influence, where the foundations are still being built and your expertise will directly shape the future of the organisation's cloud and DevOps capability.
The Opportunity:
You'll be the senior technical authority across DevOps, cloud platforms and automation, the person who sets the direction, establishes best practice, and lifts the capability of the wider engineering team.
With no existing cloud architect and inconsistent cloud patterns across several teams, you'll have the freedom and backing to introduce clarity, guardrails, and best‑in‑class engineering principles. If you're hungry to make a difference and thrive in an environment ready for modernisation, this is your chance.
What You'll Lead:
1. Designing secure, scalable cloud architectures across Azure and AWS
2. Building and owning CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
3. Implementing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM)
4. Defining DevOps standards, governance, and guardrails
5. Improving identity, SSO, Zero Trust and cloud security patterns
6. Fixing long‑standing issues in identity, directory sync, multi‑tenant setups, etc.
7. Establishing observability (monitoring, logging, alerting)
8. Mentoring engineers and elevating cloud and DevOps capability across IT
What You Bring:
9. Proven senior DevOps or cloud engineering experience
10. Strong Azure and AWS architecture knowledge (Azure preferred)
11. Excellent CI/CD, automation and IaC skills
12. Good understanding of modern security patterns (IAM, Zero Trust, PKI)
13. Ability to challenge, modernise and influence
14. A proactive, energetic approach, someone who wants to build, not maintain
Why Join?
15. Shape the DevOps function from the ground up
16. Influence cloud strategy, tooling, patterns and standards
17. Backing from senior leadership who want meaningful change
18. Work closely with infrastructure, development and security teams
19. Hybrid working with a Derby base
20. Salary up to £85,000 for the right person
This role is ideal for someone stepping up into architectural leadership or a cloud engineer who wants to own the blueprint, not just contribute to it.
