Senior Market Risk Analyst – Physical Energy Trading

A growing international energy and commodities business is seeking a Senior Market Risk Analyst to support its physical trading activities across transport fuels and related products.
This is a senior middle-office market risk role requiring strong technical capability, commercial understanding and the confidence to challenge trading activity in a fast-moving environment. The role goes beyond daily reporting and would suit someone who can provide clear insight, improve processes and help shape how market risk is understood across the business.
The role
You will take ownership of specific product areas, producing daily position and P&L reporting, validating market data, explaining performance drivers, and supporting month-end reconciliation. You will work closely with trading, commercial, finance and technology teams to ensure risk exposures and P&L are accurate, transparent and commercially meaningful.
As one of the more experienced members of the team, you will also help set standards, improve reporting processes and support the development of others within the function.
Key responsibilities
* Produce daily position reports covering market risk exposures arising from trading and hedging activity.
* Deliver daily mark-to-market P&L reporting with clear, commercially driven commentary.
* Validate pricing markers and ensure valuation methodologies are robust and meaningful.
* Identify reporting gaps and develop improved tools, reports and controls to increase transparency.
* Support month-end close, including reconciliation between middle-office P&L and finance/accounting records.
* Work closely with trading and commercial stakeholders to explain risk exposures, P&L movements and performance drivers.
* Challenge the business where required and help maintain a strong control environment.
* Support ongoing development and implementation of an Energy Trading and Risk Management system.
* Act as a point of reference for colleagues and contribute to wider team development.
* Undertake ad hoc analysis and project work to support the risk function and wider business.
Candidate profile
* Significant market risk experience within physical oil, refined products or related energy trading.
* Strong understanding of trading, hedging, mark-to-market P&L and position reporting.
* Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capability.
* High level of accuracy, attention to detail and control discipline.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and explain risk clearly.
* Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Experience mentoring, guiding or acting as a senior point of reference within a team.
* Experience with an ETRM system would be advantageous.
* Exposure to TriplePoint / Triple Point CXL would be particularly useful.
* An accounting qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.
