The Poultry Site Operative plays a crucial role in the smooth operation of a poultry site. They are responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the welfare, maintenance, production, and distribution of poultry and eggs. The main responsibilities of this role include:
* Conducting regular welfare checks on the poultry housed in the sheds, ensuring their well-being by checking food, water, and overall conditions.
* Ensuring that all areas of the site are open and accessible, allowing for efficient movement and management of the poultry.
* Maintaining detailed records of daily operations, including monitoring water levels, temperatures, and conducting poultry checks to record the number of dead birds and eggs collected.
* Collecting eggs from the floor, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained.
* Conducting regular walks among the birds to ensure that all necessary checks are completed and identifying any signs of illness or distress.
* Reporting any problems or concerns to the management, providing accurate and timely information for appropriate action.
* Packing and labeling eggs at a grading machine, ensuring that they meet the required quality standards for wholesale customers.
* Working in a physically demanding environment, which includes carrying stacks of eggs, loading them onto pallets, and moving them to the designated areas.
* Demonstrating good numerical skills to count up orders and monitor egg production and performance.
* Collaborating with team members to carry out tasks efficiently and ensure the smooth operation of the site.
* Performing weekly clean-downs of the sheds to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
* Assisting with catching and moving chickens as required.
* Undertaking general on-farm duties as assigned and contributing to the overall operation of the site.
The successful candidate for this role should be highly observant, detail-oriented, and physically fit due to the nature of the required checks and physical tasks. They should also possess good numerical skills to accurately count orders and monitor production. Full training will be provided, inline with British Lion Code standards, to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
The Poultry Site Operative must work to high standards and be prepared for farm audits from the RSPCA, DEFRA, and Lion Code. It is essential for the candidate to take pride in providing farm-fresh eggs to wholesalers and local businesses. They should also enjoy farm life and working with a family business.
The canditate does not need to be fluent in English but they MUST be able to understand and read English in order to listen to instruction and fulfil relevant paper work.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including coveralls, boots, and dust masks will be provided by the client.
Pay Rate: £12.50 per hour starting rate
Hours: 07:00 - 16:00, with a requirement to work 5 days a week (negotiable), including 1 day on weekends.
In the event of machinery breakdowns or during periods of transition or development, daily duties may take longer. Flexibility and adaptability to ensure completion of tasks may be necessary.
