We are looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. The South West International Development Network (SWIDN) are the membership network bringing together people and organisations from the South West who are working to tackle global injustice.
SWIDN are at an exciting place in our journey, with resources in place to launch the next stage of our growth and strategy. In the role of Treasurer, you would have the opportunity to help shape this growth stage, engaging in innovative practices to support, transform and equip the international development sector in the South West.
You could also have a key impact on SWIDN's continued strength and resilience, on growing our finances to a place of sustainability and enhanced capacity, and on ensuring that our UK Government grant achieves maximum value for money and effectiveness in convening and supporting international civil society in the UK's South West. SWIDN are a micro charity with a part time team of two. Responsibilities
The overall responsibilities of the Treasurer (who sits on the Board of Trustees) are to monitor the financial health of the network and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals on the state of SWIDN’s financial health, in line with best practice, and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.
* Overseeing and presenting budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees
* Leading in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements
* Overseeing financial reports for donor reporting and working with the Finance and Operations Manager/Network Coordinator.
* Leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost‐management and investment policies
* Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity
* Overseeing the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls and
* adherence to systems
* Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan
* Overseeing the charity’s financial risk‐management process
* Acting as a counter signatory on charity cheques, bank accounts and important
* applications to funders
* Attending quarterly Board meetings and one annual planning meeting
Qualifications
SWIDN don’t require applicants with previous trustee experience, applicants with a specific education level or experience of management or leadership. SWIDN work flexibly within our whole team capacity and not all trustees are expected to give the same time commitments.For this volunteer role, we are looking for someone with financial and business planning experience, experience preparing budgets and financial management reports, financial analysis skills, the ability to communicate clearly to people without financial management knowledge or experience, and some experience of the not-for-profit sector and/or international development.
