Job description


We're looking for a dynamic leader to head our Deployment team and ensure the effective delivery of high-quality, cost-efficient driving test services across the UK. You'll play a key role in developing a high-performing team, allocating resources, and supporting national service targets. As part of the wider DVSA leadership group, you'll collaborate across teams and partners to drive continuous improvement and meet future demands. If you're passionate about public service and operational excellence, we want to hear from you.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

* Execute management responsibilities effectively and in line with DVSA policies and processes, planning and coordinating tasks and activities and taking responsibility for ensuring objectives are delivered
* Effectively allocate examiner staff to meet DVSA service level agreements in accordance with the Business Plan Targets
* Identify issues and make suggestions to improve business rules for examining staff
* Deal with issues escalated through your team regarding resourcing issues
* Contribute to the continual improvement of working practices as part of DVSA's Business Excellence model
* Be receptive to and develop new ideas and initiatives ensuring key messages are cascaded to your team in a timely manner

Person specification


Required experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

* Experience of effectively engaging and building positive relationships with staff at all levels.
* Proven ability to prioritise workloads and support team productivity in a fast-paced environment.
* Demonstrated experience of managing time efficiently to meet competing deadlines and objectives.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience of conveying information clearly and professionally.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 32 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Occasional travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
