Learning Assistant- Land and Animal
Salary Range: £26, £26,834.98 depending on experience and qualifications
40 hrs per week, 52 weeks per year
Grace Garden School is a new, exciting and innovative provision which will offer full time education to children from 9-16 years who have significant/complex social, emotional or educational difficulties. We are part of the Ruskin Mill Trust.
We are seeking to appoint a Learning Assistant, Land and Animal at Grace Garden Upper School to offer specific and specialist educational support to the Land Tutor in the delivery of a therapeutic education programme to a number of students using methods in line with the Trust's Steiner principles. You will also be required to support the Land Manager in the day-to-day running of the land, to support the animal husbandry and landscaping activities. You will organise and give guidance on appropriate work for students using biodynamic agriculture principles and methodology.
The successful candidate will role model the interaction with nature, the land, the animals, the farm, students, staff and parents. They will prepare the garden for use as an educational facility and manage projects in a market garden, in collaboration with the teachers and teaching assistants.
Some evening and weekend working would be required on rotation to support the Land Team with animal and garden tasks. You will be based predominantly at our Stoke Bishop site, however you may also be required to work at Grace Garden Lower School at Canford lane.
Main Duties:
* To work closely with the Land & Animal Teacher to deliver the Practical Skills Therapeutic Education during Land and Animal sessions.
* To contribute towards planning sessions which effectively progress pupils towards their short, medium- and long-term outcomes as set by the land tutor and class teachers.
* To contribute towards planning activities in line with student Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and the land-based curriculum.
* To work with the Land and Animal Tutor to assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils' learning.
