Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive team on De La Mare and Beckett Ward At St Albans City Hospital.
De La Mare and Beckett Ward is a busy elective unit situated over two floors, delivering high-quality care to patients undergoing elective orthopaedic and elective surgical procedures, while also supporting a urology diagnostic unit.
This role offers a varied and rewarding experience within a well-established multidisciplinary team andinvolves working across all areas of the ward, providing the opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills.
Candidates should demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient-focused approach, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, good communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to work flexibly across internal rotations, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care.
Main duties of the job
Support registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering high standards of patient-centred care.
Assist patients with personal care, mobility, nutrition, and daily living activities.
Monitor and record vital signs, reporting changes appropriately.
Prepare patients for investigations, procedures, and theatre admissions.
Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable clinical environment.
Support patient flow, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
Adhere to Trust policies, infection prevention, and safeguarding procedures.

We are recruiting for full time positions covering a 24 hour, 7 day a week shift pattern (rotational shifts, with enhanced pay for weekends and nights).
Shifts are 12.5 hours long (this includes an hour allocated for breaks). Shifts will cover 7 days per week, days, nights and Bank Holidays.
We cannot accommodate set shift patterns, day or night only shifts. If you are unable to commit to the working pattern, as detailed above, we would suggest that you apply to join NHS Professionals.
You will be required to complete the Care Certificate qualification as part of your on-going training.
The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors.
