Overview
Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) is the UK's leading cardiothoracic hospital, treating approximately 100,000 patients each year and is rated "outstanding" by the Care Quality Commission. It is the Regional Heart Attack, electrophysiology, cardiothoracic surgical and Comprehensive Valve Centre, and offers supra‑regional services such as cardiac and lung transplantation, pulmonary hypertension treatments and structural heart disease treatments. RPH is situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, adjacent to the Victor Phillip Daldaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute (VPD‑HLRI), a joint venture between the NHS and the University of Cambridge, which hosts over 450 research staff and holds more than £250 million in active research funding. The University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine aspires to change medical practice and improve biological understanding through collaborative research and outstanding education and training.
Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver a programme of cardiovascular research with an emphasis on clinical, translational or population health science at a level commensurate with the appropriate university appointment.
* Obtain competitive research grant funding and supervise graduate research students.
* Contribute to the growth of cardiovascular research by working collaboratively with university and NHS colleagues.
* Engage in education, public engagement and institute management in collaboration with the VPD‑HLRI Director.
* Execute 50 % research and 50 % clinical duties at RPH, integrating seamlessly into established clinical cardiology services and maintaining a collaborative and flexible approach to working within a busy clinical department.
Qualifications
* Suitably qualified cardiologist with a focus on clinical, translational or population health research and subspecialty expertise in coronary intervention, structural cardiac intervention, cardiac rhythm management, echocardiography, inherited cardiac conditions or cardiomyopathy.
* Strong track record of attracting competitive research grant funding.
* Experience supervising graduate research students.
* Collaborative and flexible working approach in a busy clinical department.
