Vertical Borer / Vertical Turning Machinist
Job Purpose
To machine high-quality components in line with engineering drawings, specifications, and company procedures. The role requires strict adherence to health and safety regulations while maintaining high standards of workmanship. The successful candidate will also provide support and guidance within the machine shop where required.
Main Duties & Responsibilities

Operate Webster Bennetts and Berthiez vertical boring machines
*
Programme and edit using Siemens Sinumerik controls
*
Machine high-quality components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
*
Handle and machine components up to 10 tonnes
*
Set and clock one-off forged components using clamps, angle plates, and associated tooling
*
Use overhead cranes safely (LOLER training provided if required)
*
Correctly identify parts using hard stamping
*
Deburr components and prepare them for safe transportation
*
Carry out routine machine maintenance including swarf removal, oiling, and greasing
*
Complete daily bookings against route cards, recording job timings accurately
*
Conduct in-process inspection of components
*
Maintain a safe working environment in line with Health & Safety policies
*
Demonstrate flexibility and mobility of labour as required within the machine shop
Requirements
*
Proven experience in vertical boring / vertical turning
*
Experience using Siemens programming controls (preferred)
*
Time-served apprenticeship with relevant craft or technical qualification (preferred)
*
Experience within a forging or heavy engineering environment is essential
*
Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
*
Strong attention to detail and quality standards
*
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and under pressure
*
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
*
Proactive and task-oriented approach
Working Hours
Double day shifts:
*
6:00am – 2:00pm
*
2:00pm – 10:00pm
